Malawi

Geography
Malawi is in Southern Africa, east of Zambia.  It is slightly smaller than Pennsylvania.  It borders Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia.

History
Malawi became independent from the UK on July 6, 1964.  There Constitution was recognized on May 18, 1994.

Sub-tropical; rainy season (November to May); dry season (May to November)

Goverment
Malawi is a multiparty democracy.  Capital: Lilongwe

Economy
Currency: Malawian Kwacha (MWK)
Industries: Tobacco, tea, sugar, sawmill products, cement, consumer goods.
Agriculture: Tobacco, sugarcane, cotton, tea, corn, potatoes, cassava (tapioca), sorghum, pulses, groundnuts, Macadamia nuts; cattle, goats.
Malawi is landlocked and it ranks among the world’s least developed countries.  About 90% of the population live in the rural areas.

Project Sites
Your accommodations will be in the African Bible College. Detailed information will follow in your packets of information sent from the Texas office.

Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi.  We will be working here and doing physical exams working with orphans.  There will also be some small surgical procedures.

Important Information
A valid passport is required for this mission.  You will not need a visa for stays up to 3 months.

The project fees for this two-week mission are $1075.00 USD plus your airfare.  Please contact Kimberly in the Texas office if you have any questions about the project fees.
