Eyeglass Collecting

Hundreds of thousands of people in developing countries can read and sew again, build cabinets or plow a straight row because an MMI team fitted them with a good pair of used glasses.

Most of our patients have never owned a pair of glasses and could never afford an eye exam even if such services were available. Our large cataloged supply of glasses makes it possible to find exact or close matches for patients with varying combinations of prescriptions and frame sizes.

Donated eyeglasses, sunglasses, frames and cases from all over the United States are sent to our warehouses in Pennsylvania and Ontario.

We wash and sort the glasses and make simple repairs. A computer determines the prescription and assembles collections for each MMI eye project. Your glasses may be tagged for a little town in Central or South America, Eastern Europe, or Southeast Asia.

Ask for an eye kit to prepare collection boxes. These can be placed in doctor's offices, churches, banks, libraries, funeral homes, cafeterias, shopping malls, etc. You will be amazed at how fast glasses and cases accumulate in a well-placed, publicized box.
