1958 - 1969:

As worldwide air travel became accessible, doctors from the USA and Canada traveled to the "field" for three-month stretches. They lent helping hands or covered for a missionary colleague who had returned to home churches to solidify their support.

In the early 60s, Christian doctors in California and Texas crossed the border to Mexico, taking stethoscopes and sample medicines gathered from colleagues.

1968:

A Christian Medical Society group was organized and traveled to Puerta Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The experience was a disaster for the team as they went hungry and were poorly housed while trying to serve the people. At the last minute, local Plymouth Brethren missionaries John and Sheila Shannon came to help as translators. It was a rough beginning, but all involved knew it could work somehow.
