In the spring of 1995, the entire MGM staff left the Christian Medical and Dental Society and, under the same board of directors, incorporated in Texas as a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. The name changed to Medical Ministry International, better reflecting the mission of the organization and its volunteers. Meanwhile, the project calendar was ongoing. Participants continued to arrive, depart, pack, and serve. MMI Board members and their families were also project participants. Staff members volunteered in other countries as needs were presented. Graduates of the eye residency program at Santana became volunteers on MMI eye projects. Donations to MMI came in to cover the transition and participants sent project fees to the new MMI office. MMI's roots in its parent organization, Christian Medical and Dental Society, are irreplaceable and lifelong friendships continue. MMI doctors and dentists are encouraged to maintain CMDS membership. |
