Teams primarily from Texas and California began going to Mexico for MGM projects. Projects were added in Western Honduras, Belize, and Jamaica. Eye projects were held in Nicaragua and Ecuador. General medical, surgical and dental projects were added in Ecuador.

This was a period of general expansion as MGM teams were willing to go wherever doors were opened. Increasingly, MGMers understood the international role, with Canadians making up 20 per cent of the participant lists. All team members had a voice and many decisions were made on-site as needs were identified. Health care professionals from other countries volunteered regularly, especially in Mexico and the Dominican Republic
